Find ‘A Place for the Genuine’ in week 2 of Lifetime Learning

A course on American poetry, subtitled "A Place for the Genuine" and led by Joseph Auciello, is among the new Lifetime Learning offerings in the week beginning Monday, March 6.

Using the text "100 Great American Poems," supplemented by contemporary verse from The Poetry Foundation, Auciello's course offers participants an opportunity to enjoy and discuss American poetry. It takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 8.

Also on Wednesday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Steve and Jeff Bornemeier launch a new season of "Novels and Ideas" with a discussion of "Season of Migration to the North," by Tayeb Salih. The class continues on every other Wednesday through April 19. Subsequent discussions will include "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros on March 22, "The Namesake" by Jhumpa Lahiri on April 5, and "Small Things Like These" by Claire Keegan on April 19.

Other courses include "After the Midterms: Navigating a Divided Congress" on Tuesday, March 7 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with Barbara Comstock leading a discussion of Congress's abilities to perform its legislative functions in a polarized environment, and "Women Photographers" on Thursday, March 9, also from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with Gordon Talley exploring the history of photography featuring the contributions of women in portraiture, documentary and personal-imaginative imagery.

Continuing courses include MaryAnn Eaton's "Irish Film Festival" on Monday, March 6, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. with a screening of "The Secret Scripture," followed by discussion.
