See Irish films, read Hemingway, discuss democracy
The Friends of Snow Library's 2022 Winter-Spring Lifetime Learning continues the week of March 7-11 with the following courses.
Monday, March 7, 1:30 to 4 pm: Mary Ann Eaton, professor of Studies in Irish and Celtic literature at University College, Cork, Ireland, presents the first of a series of four Irish films to watch and then discuss in the context of Irish history and culture. This first film is "Five Minutes of Heaven." Other titles in the series include "Falling for a Dancer," parts 1 and 2 on March 14; "Falling for a Dancer," parts 3 and 4 on March 21; and "The Quiet Man" on March 28. This course will not be recorded.
Wednesday, March 9, 10:30 am to noon: Joseph Auciello, a returning popular and engaging teacher and journalist, presents the second of three classes on Hemingway’s masterpiece "The Sun Also Rises."
Thursday, March 10, 1:30 to 3 pm: Former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger analyzes and discusses the strength and fragility of our democracy in his one-class course, "Has Democracy Prevailed? Part 2." Part 1 was presented in the 2021 Fall Lifetime Learning Session.
Unless indicated otherwise, courses will be presented as a hybrid, meaning the presenter will be in the classroom with up to 40 registered attendees while the class is simultaneously Zoomed and recorded. All courses will be Zoomed, and Zoom registration is unlimited. With the exception of the movie courses, all courses will be recorded.
