“Glimpses of Place,” an exhibit of plein air oil paintings by Joyce Zavorskas, will be on display through September in the Craine Gallery, with a reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.
Zavorskas paints from direct observation in nature throughout the year, hiking narrow roads and beaches with backpack and easel, documenting places that matter before their demise. Things in nature transmute, a serene refuge of the spirit one day, drastically altered moments later. Cottages with character are dwarfed by surrounding trees but have changed little in 80 years. Her artworks are portraits of these precarious places, where ocean meets sand and where small cottages filled with family memories quietly persevere.
