Coming soon in Lifetime Learning: The colors of Matisse and the voyage of ‘Windbird’

The eighth week of the 2021 Winter-Spring Session of Lifetime Learning at Snow Library includes the following new and ongoing courses.

On Tuesday, March 23 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, art historian Beth Stein presents a one-class course on “Henry Matisse, the Master of Color.” Beth will examine many of Matisse’s most important works from his early years, through his rivalry with Picasso, to his final form of artistic expression, the cut-outs, all of which have become synonymous with the name Matisse.

Later on Tuesday, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Kathie Gulotta presents the first part of her three-class series titled “Juxtaposition of Science, Poetry and Breathing: Simple Strategies to Lighten Your Emotional Load.” Interesting insights will be revealed as she examines the ideas of various physicists and poets side by side. This will be combined with four different beneficial breathing techniques that will raise your energy.

On Wednesday, March 24 from 1:30 to 4 p.m., Leigh and David Fisher continue their course “Reel Time: Great Movies from Great Directors.” This week’s movie is Billy Wilder’s romantic comedy “The Apartment” starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. This course will not be recorded.

On Friday, March 26, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Judy Handley presents a one-time class, “The Voyage of Windbird,” a slide talk in which she will describe the six-year trip around the world she took with her husband in their 42-foot sailboat beginning in October 2005.

Most classes are recorded and can be viewed at your convenience.
