‘A Musical Odyssey Beginning in Ancient Times’ among new Lifetime Learning offerings

The Friends of Snow Library's 2022 Fall Lifetime Learning session has begun. Look for continuing programs in film, literature and natural history in the coming week, along with a new course led by Joseph Marchio, “A Musical Odyssey Beginning in Ancient Times.”

On Monday, Oct. 3 from 1:30 to 5 p.m., Marc Strauss, professor of theatre and dance, presents the second in a series of four provocative courtroom dramas to watch and then discuss: "Inherit the Wind (1960), starring Spencer Tracy, Fredric March, Gene Kelly and Dick York. Zoom only.

On Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, popular presenter and lecturer Joseph Auciello continues his course “Dubliners: Stories of James Joyce’s Ireland.” This is the second class in the series which continues on Oct. 18 and 25.

On Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Peter Trull, education director at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, presents the second class in his series “Cape Cod: Once Around the Sun,” looking at nature and wildlife through four seasons on Cape Cod. The final class is Oct. 12.

On Thursday, Oct. 6 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Stew Goodwin, lecturer at the Academy of Lifelong Learning, presents part two of his course examining China’s ambitions in Asia and the western Pacific, its relationship with Russia, and its interactions with the U.S. This class is Zoom only. Later on Thursday, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Joseph Marchio, Cape Cod Symphony Assistant Conductor, Chatham Chorale Music Director, and organist, leads participants on “A Musical Odyssey Beginning in Ancient Times.” He examines how the organ and other instruments enriched our lives in a variety of contexts and venues. The first class considers “Music and Theater in Ancient Times.”

Unless otherwise noted, most courses include both an in-person and online option, accommodating up to 60 registered participants in the Craine Room while the class is simultaneously Zoomed and recorded. Zoom registration is unlimited.
