Spring Lifetime Learning session wraps up with Bogie film, Greek heroes & more
/The 2022 Winter-Spring Lifetime Learning session, sponsored by the Friends of Snow Library concludes the week of April 24-28. Two one-class courses and four continuing courses close out this session and are available for registration now.
On Monday, April 25 at 1:30 p.m., Marc Strauss presents the final film in his Humphrey Bogart series. "The Desperate Hours" will be introduced, viewed and discussed. Zoom only. Not recorded.
Tuesday, April 26 brings history and political science professor Russ Leng and the second of two classes in his course "U.S. Foreign Policy" at 1:30 p.m. The class will consider "The Case of Afghanistan," with an in-depth look at the U.S. intervention in Afghanistan between the 1979 Soviet invasion and the 2001 American-led NATO invasion. Zoom only. Later on Tuesday, at 5 p.m., Steve and Jeff Bornemeier discuss the last in their series of four novels: "The Transit of Venus" by Shirley Hazzard.
On Wednesday, April 27 Peggy Kelleher presents the last of three classes that explore "Heroes and Monsters in the Ancient World" at 10:30 a.m. This class considers "The Laborers: Theseus and Hercules." Zoom only course. At 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, John Whelan, former WOMR Oldies music DJ and Great American Songbook presenter, concludes his course on the music and careers of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.
On Thursday, April 28 Richard Finnegan concludes his three-part series "Can American Government Be Fixed?" at 1:30 p.m. The class will focus on the current polarization of American politics, the incapacity of government to address major issues, and possible reforms to unlock the stasis.
Unless indicated otherwise, each course will be presented as a hybrid, meaning that the presenter will be in the classroom with up to 40 registered attendees while the class is simultaneously Zoomed. All courses, with the exception of the movie course, will be recorded.
