Featuring Sarah Hanahan on saxophone, Miki Yamanaka on piano, Jonathan Barber on drums and Barry Stephenson, bass, this concert is part of the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s On the Road Initiative. Hanahan is an up-and-coming jazz saxophonist in New York City, currently pursuing her Master’s degree in jazz performance at the Juilliard School. Now a resident of New York City but originally from Marlborough, Mass., she grew up listening to a wide variety of music but always had a special love for jazz. Recently Hanahan has been working with Sherrie Maricle and the Diva Jazz Orchestra, playing second alto and touring nationwide. She has also been working with Jason Moran as part of a collaboration with the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In New York City she can be found playing at various clubs including Birdland, Smalls Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club and others.
Jazz at Lincoln Center’s On the Road Initiative program develops, maintains and cultivates a network of young jazz musicians (performing as trios, quartets and quintets) to tour throughout the U.S. Curated and supported by Jazz at Lincoln Center and syncopated with JALC’s artist development work, these ensembles deliver high-quality performances and engage with the community in a variety of spaces and places, seeking diversity in locations and audiences.
