Author Talk: Dennis Minsky

Join local author and naturalist Dennis Minsky in the Craine Room for a talk on his book, Peculiar and Superior: A Year-Rounder in Provincetown. Dennis has spent over 50 years living in Provincetown, observing the people and animals who call it home. Peculiar and Superior is a collection of his columns from the Provincetown Independent, in which he documents, with compassion for his fellow inhabitants, the rhythms, quirks, and delights of living at the end of the world. Artist Reception: Christine Fitzsimmons

A reception for Christine Fitzsimmons, whose abstract oil paintings are on display in the Craine Gallery through January, will be held in the Craine Room. All are welcome. Christine’s exhibit, What Is It? An Exploration of Abstract Art, features paintings that portray a sensitivity to light, color, and composition. They capture energy and emotion, rather than reality. Her work invites viewers to forgo the question of “What is it?” and instead ask themselves “How does it make me feel?”

Ron Peterson, lecturer and writer on Cape history and chairperson of the Orleans Historical Commission, will teach the second half of his two-part course on Orleans history. For a tiny seaside community, Orleans has an extremely rich and varied history. This course began with 1797, when the town was officially incorporated by an act of the Massachusetts legislature signed by Governor Samuel Adams. Attacks by foreign powers during our nation’s wars, the evolving economic landscape, the coming of the railroads, early efforts to preserve our ecology, and much more are included in this whirlwind tour of our incredible town.
