Stew Goodwin will teach the final class of his Zoom-only course on populist autocrats. Populist authoritarians have been sprinkled throughout history. They’ve shared certain characteristics which might be informative for us. Stew will discuss them and explore two examples. In the first class, he discussed the 15th-century Florentine friar Girolamo Savonarola. In this second class, he’ll examine the Louisiana politician of the 1920s and early 30s, Huey Long. He considers each of them in depth (one each week) in an attempt to learn lessons.
Stew Goodwin has made a career in international investments and has been a lecturer at the Academy for Lifelong Learning for 18 years.
