Come to the Craine Room for a lecture by Tor Hansen on beachcombing along the Cape Cod shoreline. Not only is beachcombing a fun and relaxing activity, but it can also reveal local inshore biological diversity. In this lecture, Tor will use pictures to walk through the various sights beachcombers may see while walking the shoreline and explain how they contribute to the ecosystem they are a part of. Beachcombers may explore how tideline seaweeds shape habitat for a diverse array of fish in various environments, or search the tide pools for skate, dogfish, squid, and more. The audience will walk away with a better understanding of how the various creatures of the seashore coexist to sustain a diverse ecosystem.
Tor Hansen is passionate about marine life and the intricacies of the seashore environment. He’s illustrated various forms of wildlife for Woods Hole’s “Oceanus” and the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History’s “The Cape Naturalist.” He has also written about nature and wildlife for publications such as the Cape Cod Times and the Cape Codder. Now, he offers slideshow lectures that educate and inspire fellow nature enthusiasts.
