In this standalone lecture, Gordon Talley, Directing Coordinator of Yale’s School of Drama, will explore the colorful photographic works of Eliot Porter and Joel Meyerowitz and discuss the significance of color in photography. Porter and Meyerowitz created ethereal seascapes and landscapes infused with light in all its hues. The class will look at these for pure joy, as well as to understand why photography’s transition from black and white to color was a watershed in both its acceptance as art and ascendence as a prime vehicle of communication. The photographic subjects of the Maine coast and Cape Cod make for a pleasurable and educational viewing experience.
