Stephen Munroe, Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences at Marquette University, will continue his four-part course that aims to cover the broad sweep of Earth’s history. This second class will focus on the origin of life and the early biosphere. Each class will continue to examine the history of life on Earth and the conditions it developed in, concluding with a discussion of the geological record of mass extinctions and its implications for understanding the impact of humans on Earth’s environment today.

Subsequent classes will focus on the following topics:
10/16: Rise of complex life & its movement to land.
10/23: Evolving the modern biosphere: challenges past and future.
