Hear and discuss the Symphony’s re-creation of its very first program in 1962. Then and now it includes a wide variety of delightful music, such as Mozart’s “Impresario Overture” and “Fantasia on Greensleeves” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, along with two pieces for the soprano soloist: “Una Voce Poco Fa” from Rossini’s Barber of Seville, and “Depuis le Jour” from Louise, by Charpentier (sung then by Beverly Sills, a new talent on the scene). Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a toccata by Frescobaldi and a rhapsody by Chabrier completed the program then and now. This one-time course is led by George Scharr, bass trombonist and pre-concert lecturer with the Cape Symphony Orchestra and chair of the arts department at Falmouth Academy.
