Lifetime Learning: Dickens for Grown-Ups - A Christmas Carol, Part Two

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

In the second class of his three-part course, Joseph Auciello will continue to examine Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol through a fresh lens. From theater, radio plays, cartoons, and movies, the story of Ebenezer Scrooge has entertained generations of audiences throughout the English-speaking world. First, though, came the short novel by Charles Dickens – always in print, but in a mass-media age, sometimes overlooked. Joseph, an English teacher in public and private schools, as well as a published journalist on literature, education and politics, will lead the class in returning to the literary source to rediscover and enjoy “this ghostly little book” which remains timely and fresh.

The recommended text for this course is the Bantam Classics edition (ISBN #: 978-0-553-21244-0) of A Christmas Carol, though any copy will be fine.
