In the third part of this four-part, Zoom-only course taught by Marc Strauss, viewers will continue to learn about an array of dance musicals from the 1930s through the 1960s. Fred Astaire, the Nicholas Brothers, Gene Kelly, and Jerome Robbins are considered the pinnacle of dance in film musical stardom. Choreographically and in performance, these dance artists helped establish and maintain artistry for over four decades on stage and then in film forever. Through introductions, historical background, and discussion, Marc will guide the audience through four decades of great dance film musicals. This class will feature An American in Paris (1951; Gene Kelly). The final class will occur on March 18 and will focus on West Side Story (1961; Jerome Robbins).
