The Heroic Age of Greece, a time of adventure and turmoil, produced some of the greatest heroes of legend, among them Perseus, Hercules, Jason, Theseus and Odysseus. As part of their journey to being considered heroes, they often battled multiple mythic monsters that were the faces of our inner fears or personified the dangers of unknown places. Can a hero be a hero without a monster to overcome? Who/what are the monsters of our world today? How are they different from ancient predecessors? Explore these questions with Peggy Kelleher, a Classicist and English teacher. This final course in Kelleher’s three-part series looks at “the laborers,” Theseus and Hercules.
