Lifetime Learning: Murder & Mayhem in the Ancient World, Part 2

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

The subtitle of this class is “And you think your family is dysfunctional?” Learn about the chaos and carnage caused in families by curses, oracles and prophecies through the stories of the famous Greek figures Orestes and Oedipus, as depicted in the works of Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripedes and others. Are there generational consequences for immoral actions? Should we be punished for the crimes of our ancestors? Who’s responsible if a higher authority directs someone to commit a crime? Explore these questions and more with Peggy Kelleher, a Classicist and teacher at Manhattanville College. The second course will focus on Orestes and Electra.
