Lifetime Learning: Music of the Gershwins

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

This three-part course, taught by former WOMR radio host and author John Wheelan, will take a close look at the lives and music of George and Ira Gershwin. During his short life, George Gershwin created some of America’s best music, classical and popular. He was prolific. Ira Gershwin is recognized as one of the greatest lyricists of all time. Learn how the Gershwin brothers overcame humble beginnings to reach the top of their profession.

Peter Gaines will play piano and sing a few Gershwin favorites. Playing “by ear” from an early age, he loves the music of the Gershwins, show tunes from the 1940s on and entertaining us as a part of John’s great courses.
