In the final class of this four-part course, Joseph Marchio, the Assistant Conductor of the Cape Symphony, will continue to teach about the music of the Romantic period. Following the Classical period in music (1750-1820) which often used short, fragmentary, and thematic material, the Romantic period from about 1830-1900 tended to make greater use of longer, more fully defined and emotionally evocative themes. Joe started the exploration of this artistically elaborate period with a look at Beethoven, and now he will continue to examine other notable composers, such as Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara and Robert Schumann, and Brahms.
