This class will be offered twice on Oct. 25, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Author Roger Smith discusses his debut historical novel, The Conductor, Book One in Rian Krieger’s Journey, A Historical Saga in Nine Parts. Rian, as an 11-year-old tomboy, joins the Underground Railroad and navigates racial and gender prejudice in 1835 Philadelphia. The nine-book saga will follow Rian’s 80-year physical and metaphorical journey as she navigates her own identity amidst slave catchers, devils, idiots, Quakers, railroad visionaries, vigilantes, and ordinary heroes in pre-Civil War Philadelphia.
