In the final class of this Zoom-only course, lecturer Peggy Kelleher will conclude her exploration of the conceptual origins and impacts of the Seven Deadly Sins within our culture. The cultural popularity of the Seven Deadly Sins has been a frequent theme in art, literature, and discourse since the Middle Ages. How did they originate? What makes them “deadly”? Why do they still hold some degree of fascination for us? Peggy will apply this medieval concept to Greek and Roman mythology, literature, and legend. How closely allied to the ancients are our thoughts about good and evil? When and why did these thoughts change?
This class will focus on the sins of Envy, Wrath and Sloth.
