Lifetime Learning: The Farm Security Administration Photo Project

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

From the depths of the Depression through the early years of WWII, the Farm Security Administration traveled the nation to compile the largest photographic record ever undertaken. Its images — “Migrant Woman,” “Dust Storm,” “American Gothic” and others — are imbedded in our national consciousness, and its photographers, many of them household names, set the path of documentary photography for decades after. In this course led by Gordon Talley, we will look at the project’s intent, scope and controversies as well as exploring photos by Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Arthur Rothstein, Marion Post Wolcott, Russell Lee, Jack Delano, Gordon Parks and others.

This Lifetime Learning program is presented by the Friends of Snow Library. To register, visit https://friendsofsnowlibrary.org/2022-winter-spring-registration/.
