Lifetime Learning: Walker Evans and Robert Frank - Photographers Who Changed The Way America Sees Itself

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

Walker Evans and his protégé, Robert Frank, had a profound impact on photography, elevating it into a vehicle that was, at once, art, reportage and a deeply personal response to society. In this class led by Gordon Talley, we’ll look in depth at their most influential works — Evans’ American Photographs (1938) and Frank’s The Americans (1959). What do these photographs show about our nation and people, why are they so compelling, and how did these books shape our future vision of ourselves?
