Barbara Semple (retired children’s librarian, volunteer for the Chatham Historical Society and the Atwood House Museum) relates stories of life aboard a sailing vessel during the late 1800s while embarking on the China Trade. Barbara’s great-aunt, Frances Carleton Brastow Amesbury, was the wife of a sea-captain on such a vessel and, in her 15 years of journals and diaries, she describes her experiences on the high seas.
