Join us in the Craine Room for a lecture by Dr. Michael Pregot on the whaling industry on Cape Cod, which was crucial for the economy of early New England. Dr. Pregot will discuss the various forms of whaling that were seen throughout our history. He will explore the different whale products that were in demand at the time, and why the heart of the whaling industry moved from Nantucket to other New England havens. The various sea captains who made important contributions to the industry, as well the types of boats and tools used to hunt whales will also be discussed in this hour-long lecture.
Dr. Pregot is an author and educator who is passionate about maritime history. Last year, he published his book Sea Captains of Cape Cod, which delves into the fascinating lives and stories of sea captains from each town on Cape Cod. He is constantly researching new aspects of Cape Cod and maritime history, and is eager to share what he finds with those who are interested through lively lectures on a variety of topics.
The program is free and no registration is required. All are welcome.
