If you were one of the many readers who devoured Adrienne Brodeur’s debut memoir Wild Game in 2019, you know of her ability to conjure visceral scenes of domestic complexity. With her sharp prose and confident storytelling, she is an expert at the family drama. Out this summer, Brodeur reaches new heights of literary tension with her new novel, LITTLE MONSTERS.
Set on Brodeur’s own home of Cape Cod, LITTLE MONSTERS follows the Gardner family in 2016 as the two older – and nearly estranged – adult siblings Ken and Abby set out to organize a 70th birthday party for their father, Adam. This is a family that ostensibly has it all: the reputation, the money, the parties, and an influential presence in their hometown of Wellfleet Woods. But what’s left unsaid between the three are years of confused hurt after losing their mother at Abby’s birth, and consequential actions that threaten the family unit forever.
ADRIENNE BRODEUR is the author of the memoir Wild Game, which was selected as a Best Book of the Year by NPR and The Washington Post and is in development as a Netflix film. She currently serves as executive director of Aspen Words, a literary nonprofit. She splits her time between Cambridge and Orleans where she lives with her husband and children.
