Lifetime Learning: 1860s-1920s, Race & Class in America

  • Snow Library 67 Main Street Orleans, MA United States (map)

Rather than the traditional way of looking at American history by marching through time, this three-part course will look thematically at the development of America in the post Civil War era by focusing on race and class. We will look at how the freed slave and the new immigrant interacted with existing society and how all were affected by the rise of industry. The 1860s to the 1920s was a pivotal time period in the development of the America that we all know. Led by Meg Mahoney, retired chair of the history department at Ethel Walker School.
