This is the second class in a three-part course featuring various expert presenters addressing the importance of eco-friendly landscaping. This class will be taught by Cherie Bryan, a member of the Barnstable County Master Gardeners program, and will focus on naturalizing lawns by introducing native species. Cherie will explain why people want to introduce more natives to their properties and what natives work in the various environments common to the Cape Cod landscape. When talking about putting the right plant in the right place, gardeners consider shady areas, wet areas, sunny areas, and the effects of the increasingly warmer and dryer climate conditions. She will suggest some native plants to help naturalize more of your lawn.
Cherie is a past President of the Barnstable County Master Gardeners and has been active in the Children’s Garden located in Brewster, the Speaker’s Bureau and the Mentoring programs. Her current gardening interests are roses, increasing native plants on her property, a salad garden in raised beds, and nurturing the shrubs, trees, and flower beds around her home in Orleans.
